Gratitude for the Presence of God

Sometimes gratitude begins not with what God has given us, but with the simple recognition that "God is. He always was. He always will be."

In the noise of our days, it can be easy to move from one concern to another without stopping to recognize the presence of the Lord. Yet Scripture reminds us, “In him we live, and move, and have our being.”  Acts 17:28.

God is present in our joy and in our struggle. He is present when we gather as a faithful community, and in the quiet moments of solitude. In prayer, in meditation, and in the sound of praises pouring from our heart.

Saint John Coltrane expressed his gratitude simply and profoundly in the words, “Thank you God,” which appear 14 times in his Psalm. Those words remain at the heart of his A Love Supreme album and resonate with our own calling to live with an awareness of God's presence and to be grateful.

Today, wherever you may be, take a moment to listen. Be still. Give thanks, not only for what God has done, but for who God is.

"The fact that we do exist is acknowledgement of Thee O Lord. Thank you God. "

“O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” — Psalm 136:1
