Mass at Saint John's is every Sunday from 12 noon to 3 pm. All are welcome!

Communion Sunday is every first Sunday of each month. Mass consists of Confession, The Coltrane Liturgy, Scripture readings, Hymns and Spirituals, and Preaching.

We encourage everyone to participate in the services by singing along, clapping your hands, and dancing. If you play an instrument, bring it.

“Yes, I think the music is rising, in my estimation, it's rising into something else, and so we'll have to find this kind of place to be played in.”
— John Coltrane

he musical ministry is delivered through the “Ministers of Sound” also known as the church ensemble: Ohnedaruth. Many of the members of this ministry are ordained clergy who are dedicated to spreading Coltrane Consciousness. Every Sunday, Ohnedaruth provides the rhythm section and lead horns which support the Voices of Compassion (choir), as together they seek to invoke the Spirit of God through sound praise. The sound praise consists of the Coltrane Liturgy, which combines the Divine Liturgy of the African Orthodox Church, and the Twenty-third Psalm, with the melodies, harmonies and rhythms of Saint John Coltrane's masterpiece: A Love Supreme.

The dedication of the Ministers of Sound extends far beyond Sunday morning worship and has made global impact, drawing visitors to the church from all parts of the world.

With all music dedicated to God, to whom all praise is due, Ohnedaruth has played virtually every night club and Jazz venue in the bay area, including Kimball's East, Yoshi's, Bimbo's, and the San Jose Jazz Festival. They have been blessed to play to excited European fans in France when they twice brought the Coltrane Liturgy to the stages of the Antibes Jazz Festival, and played at the Sorbonne University in Paris.

Ohnedaruth and ensemble are available for weddings, funerals, and private functions. For information on booking Ohnedaruth or having a representative from the music ministry speak, or teach a workshop with your organization or music department please contact admin@coltranechurch.org with details about your event or project.
