Free food and clothing are given to the poor and needy. We are now entering our 37th year of service to the community and have been recognized by the California State Legislature for this work.
Referrals are received from various agencies such as the Department of Social Services, Traveler's Aid, The Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Low income families, senior citizens, the handicapped and people from all walks of life are served. There is no discrimination as to race, creed or religious affiliation.
At one time the poor could accommodate their clothing needs by taking advantage of the low prices offered at neighborhood thrift shops. Inflation has made this a thing of the past. We offer free new and used clothing and shoes to the homeless, unemployed job seekers, anyone in need.
Reaching out to children in need has always been of great importance, particularly for the Sisters of Compassion. Each year the Sisters have sponsored a free toy drive for the children of the community, serving thousands of families throughout the years. The Sisters work together with individuals and small businesses and large corporations to make Christmas a magical time for many youngsters. Equally as important is family, and each year the Sisters of Compassion also offer a free Thanksgiving and Christmas feast. The Meals are Traditional or vegetarian, and all are welcome! |
